15 May ILI-ACLE Participates in ICCA Events
On May 11, 2016 ILI-ACLE participated in a by-invitation-only workshop during the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) 2016 Congress held in Mauritius. Held in cooperation with UNCITRAL and the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the consultative workshop, Cooperation among African Arbitration Initiatives, provided the opportunity to learn more on the numerous arbitration-related initiatives taking place on the continent as well as discuss ways to improve information-sharing and collaboration among the various bodies.
A month earlier, on April 7, ILI-ACLE hosted the Young ICCA Arbitration Skills Training Workshop, the first in Uganda, in collaboration with two Ugandan law firms – AF Mpanga and ABMAK Associates. Young ICCA is a forum for young professionals involved or interested in arbitration. Contributing to the workshop were specialists from the region and beyond including two judges who have played a significant role in the introduction of ADR in Uganda and the Judiciary, Hon. Justice Kiryabwire and Hon. Justice Ogoola; the head of the Centre for Arbitration and Dispute Resolution; senior counsel and partners from Jones Day and Freshfields Bruckahaus Deringer; among others. The workshop was well attended and elicited positive feedback from participants.
